Learning About Napa Wines
ATLAS PEAK APPELLATION: Atlas Peak is home to Napa Valley's most highly elevated, rugged and visually stunning landscape, The Atlas Peak Appellation Association was formed to educate and inform wine enthusiasts about the special characteristics of Atlas Peak grapes and wines. Lagniappe Peak is proud to be a member of APAA and serve on its board of directors. We proudly grow Atlas Peak grapes on our estate vineyard and source from neighbor growers Philary, Box W, Hendrickson Family and Bella Vista vineyards.
COOMBSVILLE APPELLATION: Coombsville itself is a bowl-shaped depression, cradled by a crescent-shaped section of the foothills of the Vacas Range, topped by Mt. George and Atlas Peak and flanked by the town of Napa and the Napa River. Most of the area was blanketed by volcanic ash from Mt. George. Alluvial flows covered the ash with cobble-stone strewn layers of rich loams. Pockets of volcanic soils and rocks pepper the landscape as well. The gravelly loams and rocky volcanic soils drain easily and the ash sub-soils hol
NAPA VALLEY VINTNERS: The Napa Valley Vintners nonprofit trade association has been cultivating excellence since 1944 by inspiring its more than 525 members to consistently produce wines of the highest quality, to provide environmental leadership and to care for the extraordinary place they call home. Lagniappe Peak Vineyards is a proud member of NVV.
OAK KNOLL APPELLATION The federal government formally recognized the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley as the 14th American Viticultural Area of Napa Valley in 2004. Today, the district’s 8,300 acres find nearly 4,200 acres under vine. It has the most grapevines of any wholly-contained sub appellation of the Napa Valley. It is located north of the City of Napa and south of Yountville. Mt. Veeder is the western border and the Silverado Trail defines its eastern boundary. We source wonderful semillon from Carsi Ra
RUTHERFORD AVA: The Rutherford Appellation was designated in 1993 and the Rutherford Dust Society was founded in 1994 by growers and vintners in tribute to the legacy of our grape growing and winemaking forebears. Since the late 19th century, the growers and vintners of Rutherford have played a significant role in the development of Napa Valley as a world-class winegrowing region. We proudly source our Sauvignon Blanc from Dalla Gasparina Vineyard on Galleron Road in Rutherford.
Learning About Other North Coast Wines
LAKE COUNTY APPELLATIONS The Lake County wine-growing region is divided into seven recognized appellations, each with its own terroir, or sense of place, that produces grapes and wines of compelling quality and character. We proudly source our Sauvignon Blanc from Quercus Ranch in the Big Valley District AVA.
MENDOCINO COUNTY APPELLATIONS The over-arching “Mendocino County” appellation is home to a total of ten American Viticulutral Areas (AVAs). Traditionally, Mendocino wines were consumed locally. More recently, however, modern world-wide distribution has brought international recognition. We source the Syrah for our Bebe Rose from Trails End Vineyard in the Potter Valley AVA.
SONOMA COUNTY APPELLATIONS There are many diverse wine growing regions in Sonoma County. Each has a unique climate and geography and directly correlates to the wine in your glass. From warm, sunny days to cooler, fog covered valley floors, the variations in the geography and climate influence each individual region in many ways. We proudly source our Malbec from Woolard Vineyards in the Sonoma Valley AVA and our Petite Sirah from Windsor Oaks Vineyards in the Chalk Hill AVA.
